EXTOD patient day 2019

EXTOD patient day 2019

Saturday 19 October, 2019 9am
The Raddison blue hotel in Glasgow, UK.

Held at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow this training day was set up after an EXTOD and JDRF surveys both found that patients with type 1 diabetes find managing glucose around exercise challenging and requested further education on this subject.

Based on the three day EXTOD education programme this whole day event was delivered in small workshops. In these workshops 2 experts in the field of diabetes and exercise used interactive tools, clinical cases, shared learning and problem-based tasks to help patients with Type 1 diabetes to learn how to manage exercise choices confidently and safely.

Topics covered in the programme included the effects of different types of exercise on blood glucose levels, the rule of threes for managing glucose around exercise, nutrition and exercise and strategies to plan for exercise. The programme is shown below.

Course materials and a book incorporating all that is covered on the day was provided to all participants who attended. In total 72 people attended the day.
