Advice for Professionals
This section of the website is aimed at helping health care professionals to provide advice and guidance to people with Type 1 diabetes on safely and confidently managing blood glucose levels before, during, and after exercise.
The advice and some of the material on this website are based on the EXTOD education project. This project was funded by the National Institute for Health Research's (NIHR) Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme and was a collaboration between Taunton and Somerset NHS foundation Trust, University of Exeter, University of Birmingham, University of Leicester, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Leicester.
In developing this website and the EXTOD education programme we have sought to simplify what is quite a complex subject. However by using the knowledge detailed on this website health care professionals will be able to help people with Type 1 diabetes manage most of the issues they come across when exercising. If however you feel that it would be helpful to discuss a patient in detail then you can chose to get in contact with a one of our expert clinicians who have a vast wealth of experience in managing exercise and Type 1 diabetes.
