EXTOD again joined with the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and JDRF’s Performance in Exercise and Knowledge (PEAK) programme to offer another interactive day of education focusing on type 1 diabetes and exercise. This year the training day was held on 18th October 2019 at the Raddison blue hotel in Glasgow.

Over 150 healthcare professional attended the event. The programme for the even is shown below

Workshops 1: Assessment and simple strategies
6 workshops were run in parallel with the same content. Each workshop was fascilated by a Doctor, dietitian or specialist nurse and patient.
The workshop ran through cases that the delegates had been sent prior to the event to illustrate
  • How to assess someone is safe to exercise
  • How to do a dietary assessment
  • What initial advice to give
  • How to manage different sport

Workshop 2: Advanced strategies
6 workshops were run in parallel with the same content. Each workshop was facilitated by a Doctor, dietitian or specialist nurse and patient.
The workshop ran through cases that the delegates had been sent prior to the event to illustrate

  • How to provide advice on managing a long endurance event
  • How to do a more complex dietary assessment
  • How to manage more complex sports/events such as watersports and exercising in extreme conditions such as altitude
  • Tips for managing common problem
